County Administration Building The County of Riverside, in cooperation with Riverside Superior Court, administers the delivery of legal services to indigents in criminal, juvenile, probate, and other cases. Attorneys are normally provided through the Law Offices of the Public Defender. In cases where the Public Defender has a conflict with representation, such as in multiple defendant cases, a criminal defense attorney is appointed. The County Executive Office currently administers contracts with three attorney groups to provide legal services to indigent defendants. The contracts are renegotiated annually, with a term from July 1 to June 30 of the following year. For the year ending June 30, 2009, contracts are in place with:
A competitive process is held every few years for attorney groups interested in bidding on the contracts. Copies of the current contracts may be viewed by double-clicking the tabs above. Payment of some court-appointed experts, investigators and lawyers is also handled through the County Executive Office.
